Horizon High School Adult Education Program

The Hamtramck Public School District is proud to announce the opening of registration for the Adult Education Program at Horizon High School. This initiative is dedicated to helping adults gain the education and skills they need to advance academically, professionally, and personally.

August 11 – August 21, 2025

  • Monday & Tuesday: 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM

  • Wednesday & Thursday: 12:30 PM – 6:30 PM

Programs Offered – FREE of Charge

Horizon’s Adult Education Program provides a wide range of learning opportunities tailored to meet the diverse needs of adult learners:

  • ESL – English as a Second Language
    Designed to help non-native speakers develop strong reading, writing, and communication skills in English.

  • HSC – High School Completion
    Online and in-person options for adults who need to finish required credits and earn an official High School Diploma.

  • HSE – High School Equivalency (GED)
    Prepares learners for GED tests in English, Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies.

  • ABE – Adult Basic Education
    Focuses on foundational skills such as reading, writing, and math for learners below the 9th-grade level. Often considered “Pre-GED” training.

📌 Class Schedules

All programs are offered Monday through Thursday to maximize flexibility:

  • ESL Classes:

    • Morning: 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM

    • Afternoon: 12:00 PM – 2:30 PM

    • Evening: 4:00 PM – 7:30 PM

  • ABE/GED Classes:

    • Morning: 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM

    • Afternoon: 12:00 PM – 2:30 PM

    • Evening: 4:00 PM – 7:30 PM

  • HSC Classes:

    • Evening: 4:00 PM – 7:30 PM

✅ Enrollment Requirements

To enroll in Horizon’s Adult Education Program, students must complete the following steps:

  1. Placement Test – Determines the appropriate level and program placement.

  2. One-Time Fee of $10 – Ensures commitment and program support.

  3. Valid ID Card – Required for registration and attendance verification.

  4. Social Security Number (SSN) – Needed for program enrollment and record-keeping.
